As the center for junior researchers, Dahlem Research School (DRS) has established an overarching framework for structured graduate education at Freie Universität Berlin (FUB). It supports outstanding junior researchers working on interdisciplinary research themes either within one of its doctoral degree programs or the DRS Postdoc Fellowship Program.
We at DRS needed a Course Management system which went beyond the available options and incorporated a budgeting system, could do inventory management and handle students from different universities and OpenCampus delivered to us just that and exceeded our expectations. The OpenCampus Course Management Solution was completely flexible with the courses, interoperable between different universities’ students and incorporated complex course booking rules along with creating budget accounts and the ability to associate students with these accounts.
They also provided a configurable course tree and a simple interface to create and add content to courses so that non-IT staff could easily use the system. It also includes location (classrooms, lecture halls, auditoriums) management and also wait-list management for teachers. Along with course booking, the OpenCampus system creates a personalised calendar for each student and also the important option to export this calendar to their personal devices via a calendar feed, something which is a first for us. From my experience with OpenCampus, I would gladly recommend them to anyone looking for course management solutions for their educational institution as they have delivered an outstanding product with unparalleled features.
